Easy Does It

This might be my favorite question. And we get it in loads of different ways.

“This workout seems easy, is that the goal?”

“Is this the weight for the day or should I go up?”

“Do you have anything else or is that it?

Whatever shape the question comes in, it always strikes the same chord. Why does this seem so easy?

The fitness industry makes it look so difficult. So complicated. Workouts, diets, lifestyle change – it seems like every fitness influencer is peddling some sort of ultra-complex diet book or long-winded periodized program.

Not to mention, every video you’ll see will feature someone out of breath, super sweaty, and likely not wearing a lot of clothing.

It’s all sleight-of-hand.

The truth is that elaborate workouts sell. (And so does sex, for that matter). Sophisticated programs and diets make us think that the salesman has the secret buried deep and, since we don’t understand the science anyway, it matters not that we know where it is.

You just have to do that program.

(Besides, how better to position yourself as an expert than to artificially complicate a rather simple process and then explain how you yourself, in fact, complicated it?)

It doesn’t have to be so confusing.

Find a strength + aerobic program that fits into your schedule and recovery ability, allowing you to stay consistent for a long period of time (measured in months or years, not weeks).

This is the definition of “sustainability” in fitness. And it works for both athletes and beginners alike.

So, yes, most of the time it will feel easy. That’s the point.
